Age Restrictions at a Gaming Club: 14+, 16+, 18+

Section titled “Age Restrictions at a Gaming Club: 14+, 16+, 18+”

Age control at a gaming club is an operational process built on three elements: club policy (what threshold, which documents), front-desk procedure (how staff verify age), and CRM records (how data is stored for audit trail).

IZI provides tools for recording age in client profiles and managing groups. Legal requirements for age control are the club owner’s responsibility and vary by jurisdiction.

Reminder: requirements for admitting minors vary by country. For legally binding conclusions, consult a lawyer in your jurisdiction.

Regional Overview: What Restrictions Apply Where

Section titled “Regional Overview: What Restrictions Apply Where”

Age restrictions for gaming clubs are not globally standardized:

Russia. No specific law for gaming clubs exists. Clubs operating as gambling venues or selling alcohol fall under 18+. Clubs without licensed activities set their own threshold. Nighttime access for minors is restricted by regional curfew laws (typically 22:00–23:00 depending on region and age).

UAE. Shopping malls and family venues typically admit visitors from age 13–15. Unaccompanied minors — generally from 16–18 depending on location and license. Exact requirements: check with the regulator of the relevant emirate.

EU / International practice. PEGI game ratings (3, 7, 12, 16, 18) are legally binding for game sales in some EU countries but do not directly regulate club entry. Clubs with bars or alcohol sales: 18+.

General principle: set your threshold based on jurisdiction requirements and venue type, and document it in the club’s internal policy.

The primary tool. During registration or profile editing:

  1. Open the client profile (or registration form)
  2. Enter the Date of Birth based on the presented document
  3. Save

Age is calculated automatically. Staff see the client’s age in the profile every time it is opened.

If the club requires document verification at registration, add a note in the Note field:

Document verified: national passport, 2026-05-31, admin Smith

This creates an audit trail without storing a scan. The field is visible to staff only.

If the club works with minors under special terms (reduced price, restricted hours, adult required) — create a group and apply corresponding tariffs. More details: Client Groups in IZI.

A standard protocol that reduces the risk of admitting underage clients:

Visual assessment. If a client appears younger than the threshold — request ID. Do not rely solely on appearance: if in doubt, ask.

Documents. Accept documents with a photo and date of birth: passport, student card, driver’s license, government-issued ID. The specific list should be in the club’s internal policy.

Recording. Enter the date of birth in the profile. If a document was not presented, note it in the remarks.

Refusal. If age cannot be confirmed — do not serve. Log in the club journal.

In some jurisdictions, minors’ presence in public places after a certain time is prohibited or restricted. For a gaming club this means:

  • Staff must know the age of clients during night shifts
  • When curfew time is reached — warn the minor and end the session
  • Log the session end time and reason

Setting up tariffs restricted by client group prevents night tariffs from being applied to clients in the “Minor” group — such a client won’t be able to select a night tariff at the desk. The final decision to end a session still rests with the administrator.

If a minor gained access to the club bypassing controls or violated time restrictions:

  1. Log the incident — in the club journal and in the client’s profile note (if registered)
  2. End the session — correctly through CRM
  3. Notify the senior administrator or owner
  4. Investigate the cause — how the minor passed verification: administrative error, ID not requested, fake document
  5. Correct the procedure — if this is a systemic failure, not a one-off

Document forgery is a legal matter. Consult a lawyer and contact law enforcement if necessary.

A separate aspect of age control is game content. A PEGI-18 or equivalent rating means the game is intended for adults. In a club this means:

  • PCs with 18+ games are not recommended for minors
  • Club zoning (separate areas for different content) reduces risk

IZI allows tariffs to be tied to hall zones — this is the tool for implementing zoning. More details: Hall Zones in IZI.

  • Club age threshold defined per jurisdiction requirements
  • Requirements documented in internal policy
  • Administrators briefed on verification procedure
  • Client groups and tariffs for minors configured in IZI (if applicable)
  • Document check recording format agreed (date of birth + note)
  • Local nighttime restrictions for minors are known
  • Violation response protocol written and communicated to staff

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum age to visit a gaming club?

It depends on the country and region. Most jurisdictions have no single law specifically for gaming clubs — the threshold is set by the club itself or by regulators through licensing requirements. Common thresholds: 14+, 16+, 18+. Consult a lawyer in your jurisdiction for binding requirements.

Is ID verification required for every minor?

Depends on club policy and local law. Minimum practice: check ID for anyone who appears younger than the threshold. Stricter: check all visibly underage visitors. Specific requirements are jurisdiction-dependent.

Can minors be admitted with parental consent?

Depends on jurisdiction. In some countries, written parental consent allows entry below the established age threshold. In others, the restriction is absolute. This is a legal question — get written legal advice for your situation.

How do I record a client's age in IZI?

Via the Date of Birth field in the client profile. The administrator enters the date during registration or profile editing. Age is calculated automatically and displayed in the profile.

What if a minor already started a session and the age issue was discovered later?

End the session and log the incident. If this is the first occurrence, brief the administrator. If it keeps happening, revise the entry verification protocol. Refund policy is at the club's discretion.

How do I restrict minors from late-night sessions?

Through tariff rules: night-hour tariffs can be restricted to specific client groups or require an adult present. Technically: via client groups and corresponding tariffs. Legally: verify nighttime restrictions in your jurisdiction.
