Wallpapers on gaming PCs via CRM

Published: · IZI Team

Before this feature existed, desktop wallpapers on gaming PCs were set once during IZI client installation and could not be changed from the CRM. Now club admins create wallpaper rules directly in the CRM — the image is applied to selected PCs automatically, without physical access to the machines.

This is useful for hall branding: different zones (VIP, esports, standard seats) can show different wallpapers. Changes take effect within about a minute of saving the rule.

Location in CRM: Settings → Screensavers → Wallpapers

One rule = one image + a list of target devices or zones. There is no scheduling: a rule is always active. If a device matches multiple rules, the one with the most recent edit timestamp wins.

Where to find it: Settings → Screensavers → Wallpapers → Add wallpaper button

Steps:

  1. Open the Wallpapers section in the CRM sidebar.
  2. Click Add wallpaper — the new rule form opens.
  3. In the 1. Image block, upload your file:
    • Format: JPEG or PNG.
    • Recommended size: 1920×1080 pixels.
    • The image must be uploaded through the media uploader (not an external URL) — the system validates the file checksum on save.
  4. In the 2. Targeting block, choose where to apply the wallpaper:
    • Individual devices — select by PC name.
    • Zones — the rule applies to all devices in that zone at once.
    • You can combine both: target specific devices and zones in a single rule.
    • At least one target is required — you cannot save a rule with no targeting.
  5. In the right column, enter a name for the rule (used for identification in the list only).
  6. Check the preview in the right column — it shows how the wallpaper will look on a PC monitor with the IZI widget overlay.
  7. Click Save.

After saving, the CRM sends the command to all affected devices. Wallpapers update the next time each PC checks in with the server (usually within a minute).

The right edge is covered by the IZI widget

Section titled “The right edge is covered by the IZI widget”

In the preview you will notice a vertical strip on the right — that is the IZI widget: three ad blocks and the terminal panel. It renders on top of the wallpaper and occupies the same area on the actual monitor.

The practical takeaway: anything that should be visible to the player — the club logo, a promotion, a QR code, contact info — should be placed in the left and center of the image. A composition centered to the right will be hidden by the widget on the real screen.

The same widget overlays the screensaver lock screens — the same rule applies there.

When multiple rules target the same device (directly or via a zone), the rule with the most recent last-modified timestamp wins. The order of rows in the list has no effect.

Example: you have two rules — “Hall 1” (a zone) and “PC-05” (a specific device). Both cover PC-05. Whichever rule was edited more recently applies. To guarantee a specific rule wins, simply re-save it without changes — that updates its timestamp.

  1. In the Wallpapers list, click the row of the rule you want to edit.
  2. Change the image or targeting.
  3. Click Save.

Wallpapers on affected devices update automatically after saving.

  1. In the Wallpapers list, click the trash icon on the rule’s row.
  2. Confirm the deletion in the dialog that appears.

After deletion, PCs that had the rule applied revert to the default image (the one that ships with the IZI client). That image cannot be managed from the CRM.

  • Outdated IZI client. Applying wallpapers requires the updateWallpaper command to be supported by the IZI client on the PC. Older client versions silently ignore the command — the server tracks this in metrics but does not surface an error in the CRM. Update the IZI client on the affected PCs.
  • Image uploaded without a checksum. This can happen if the upload was interrupted. Remove the image from the media library and re-upload it.
  • PC is offline. The command will be delivered the next time the device comes back online.

If a device shows as online but the wallpaper does not change, check the client version and re-save the rule.

You can view the list of club devices and their connection status under Settings → Equipment → Devices.

Frequently asked questions

How do I set different wallpapers for different zones?

Create a separate rule for each zone: select the zone in the Targeting section and upload the image you want. If a device matches multiple rules, the one edited most recently takes effect.

What image format and size should I use for wallpapers?

JPEG or PNG, recommended size 1920×1080 pixels. Other formats (WebP, GIF, video) are not accepted.

What will players see if a wallpaper rule is deleted?

The PC reverts to the default image that ships with the IZI client. The CRM does not control that image.

Can I schedule wallpapers to show at specific times?

No. A wallpaper rule applies continuously to all targeted devices and zones — scheduling is not supported.
