TrueNAS Versions for IZI Boot and How to Upgrade

Section titled “TrueNAS Versions for IZI Boot and How to Upgrade”

IZI Boot works with the club’s TrueNAS server through its API. The TrueNAS version determines what IZI Boot can do on the server.

TrueNAS versionWhat happens
below 24.04 (e.g. 23.10)The connection is saved, but IZI Boot does nothing on the server until it is upgraded: the club’s automation stops and any action on the server is rejected. The CRM shows a red banner with instructions.
24.04 and 24.10Work.
25.04 and newerRecommended. Older versions get a yellow warning in the CRM.

Why the minimum is 24.04. On 23.10, once disks are removed from the server, serving new PC disks breaks: the server stops showing them to the PCs and the game disks “drop off”. 24.04 does not have this problem.

Support upgrades the server remotely, through the connection you saved in the CRM. The club needs to provide:

  1. A window with no players. The server reboots, and games on the PCs disappear for about 10 minutes per reboot.
  2. Someone next to the server during the upgrade, with physical access to it in case the server does not come back on its own.

Write to IZI support and agree on a time. Example: upgrading from 23.10.2 to 24.04.2.5 took one reboot, and the server was unreachable for about two minutes.

Follow the official TrueNAS guides:

  1. Save the server configuration — Managing the System Configuration.
  2. Check the upgrade path between major versions — the Upgrade Paths section of TrueNAS Software Status.
  3. Upgrade the server — Updating TrueNAS. For 24.04 — Updating SCALE 24.04.

Do it in a window with no players.

Open the IZI Boot setup in the CRM and save the connection again (the “Next” button in the wizard). IZI re-reads the server version, the red banner disappears, and the club’s automation resumes.
