Unlock a free PC via tech mode
Unlock a free PC via tech mode
Section titled “Unlock a free PC via tech mode”Click the lock toggle on a free PC in the Control Center — the Unlock PC dialog opens. Enter a reason and duration for a tech-mode hold, then click Unlock. The PC unlocks immediately and simultaneously receives a hold for the specified duration, blocking new bookings during that time.
This flow was added alongside the standard unlock during an active session. Previously the lock toggle did nothing on a free PC; now it opens the tech-mode dialog.
Required permissions
Section titled “Required permissions”Two permissions are needed to unlock a free PC:
- Unlock devices (
club.deviceUnlock) — allows sending the unlock command from the CRM to the device. - Create holds (
club.holds) — allows creating a tech-mode hold; without it the toggle on a free PC is disabled.
Without the Create holds permission, the lock toggle on a free PC is inactive. Hovering over it shows: “This toggle is only available during an active session or hold — the PC is currently free.” Permissions are managed in Settings → Users.
Unlocking a single PC
Section titled “Unlocking a single PC”Where to find it: Main → Hall → Control Center tab. The lock icon is on the right side of each PC row.
Steps:
- Confirm the PC is free (no active session and no existing hold).
- Click the lock toggle on the PC row. The Unlock PC dialog opens with the description “Create a technical-mode hold — the PC unlocks immediately.”
- The Device field is pre-filled and cannot be changed.
- In the Reason field, enter a description — for example, “Hardware inspection” or “Mouse replacement.” This field is required.
- Set the Duration in hours and minutes. The default is the lesser of 60 minutes and the time until the next scheduled session or booking. The system automatically caps the hold end at the nearest upcoming booking even if you enter a longer value.
- Click Unlock. The button is inactive if the slot conflicts with an existing booking.
After confirmation, the PC moves to Unlocked status and a tech-mode hold is created — booking is blocked until the hold expires.
When the unlock dialog cannot proceed
Section titled “When the unlock dialog cannot proceed”The system checks the schedule before opening the dialog. The unlock is blocked in two cases:
- The next session starts in less than 1 minute — an error appears (“The next session or hold on this PC starts in less than 1 min”) and the dialog closes without changes.
- The timeline has not loaded yet — a message appears (“A free PC can be unlocked on the current day timeline once it has loaded”). Wait for the timeline to load and try again.
Difference from unlocking during an active session
Section titled “Difference from unlocking during an active session”When a PC has an active session or existing hold, clicking the lock toggle performs a direct unlock with no dialog. The Unlock PC dialog only appears for a free PC — that is when the system has no context for how long to leave the PC open, so it asks the administrator.
Bulk unlock with a shared reason
Section titled “Bulk unlock with a shared reason”The Control Center supports bulk actions for unlocking multiple PCs at once.
Steps:
- Click Bulk actions in the top-right corner of the Control Center.
- Select the PCs you want — individually or by clicking Free to select all free devices at once.
- Click Unlock in the toolbar.
- For PCs that have no active session or hold, a dialog opens with Reason and Duration fields — these values apply to all free devices in the selection.
- Click Unlock. A report opens when the operation completes.
The report shows three groups:
| Group | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Success | PCs unlocked and hold created |
| Skipped | PC skipped — no active session or hold and no tech-mode reason was provided, or the next session starts too soon |
| Errors | Technical errors when sending the command |
Click Retry failed to rerun only the failed operations. Click Disable bulk actions to return to normal mode.
What is logged
Section titled “What is logged”Every unlock from the CRM — single or bulk — is written to the tech-mode log. The entry includes the administrator’s name, the time of the operation, and the reason entered. The log is available in Analytics → Tech mode log.
Completing at least one successful CRM unlock closes the onboarding step “Unlocked a PC from the CRM” — the system tracks this automatically; the change may take a couple of minutes to appear.
What happens when the hold expires
Section titled “What happens when the hold expires”When the configured duration ends, the tech-mode hold is removed automatically. The PC stays in whatever lock state it was in at that moment — IZI does not change the lock status automatically when a hold expires. To remove a hold early, use the Release tech mode button in the bulk actions panel, or delete the specific hold from the device timeline.
Common situations
Section titled “Common situations”| Situation | What happens / resolution |
|---|---|
| PC is free, administrator lacks the Create holds permission | Toggle is inactive: “This toggle is only available during an active session or hold — the PC is currently free.” Contact the club owner to assign the permission |
| Next session starts in less than 1 minute | System shows an error and closes the dialog. Wait or remove the conflicting booking |
| Timeline has not finished loading | Message: “A free PC can be unlocked on the current day timeline once it has loaded.” Wait for the timeline |
| PC is offline when the unlock command is sent | The command is saved and applied automatically when the PC reconnects |
| Some PCs ended up in Skipped during a bulk unlock | Use Retry failed or unlock the skipped devices one at a time |

Frequently asked questions
Why does clicking the lock toggle on a free PC open a dialog instead of unlocking immediately?
A free PC has no active session or existing hold. A direct unlock with nothing to anchor it would leave the PC open to any booking immediately. The dialog lets you set a reason and duration for a tech-mode hold; the PC then unlocks and simultaneously gets a hold that blocks bookings for the specified time.
What happens if the next session or hold starts in less than a minute?
The system shows an error — the next session or hold on this PC starts in less than 1 minute — and closes the dialog without changes. Wait for the slot to clear, or remove the conflicting booking.
Is the Create Hold permission required to unlock a free PC?
Yes. Without the club.holds permission the lock toggle on a free PC is disabled — hovering shows 'This toggle is only available during an active session or hold — the PC is currently free'. The club.deviceUnlock permission is also required.
How does automatic duration trimming work?
If the PC has a scheduled session or booking, the system automatically caps the hold end at that time — even if you enter a longer duration. The Duration field defaults to the lesser of 60 minutes and the time until the next booking.
What does the bulk unlock report show?
After a bulk operation, a report opens with three counters: Success, Errors, and Skipped. Free PCs for which no tech-mode reason was provided — or where the next session starts too soon — appear under Skipped.
